Our Evaluations

DEval is carrying out an evaluation synthesis of private sector engagement in development cooperation (DC). This involves systematically reappraising the existing evidence on the effectiveness of private sector engagement and deriving recommendations from it for future instruments and programmes in the thematic area.

The starting point for the “Exit processes in development cooperation” synthesis study is a strategic reorientation in German development cooperation. The study was completed in 2021.

Wars and conflicts force millions of people worldwide to flee their homes. Within the framework of the German Government's 'Partnership for Prospects in the Middle East', DEval has investigated how short-term assistance and development cooperation can be meaningfully connected in order to improve the lives of both refugees and the local population in the host communities.

Germany’s official development cooperation has been supporting policy initiatives in partner countries for a long time. However, little is known about how influential or useful this support is assessed to be by partners. Together with the AidData research lab at the College of William & Mary in the USA, DEval set out to close this knowledge gap.
