Evidence on reforestation programs and farmer field schools in Madagascar

Climate change poses growing challenges for rural livelihoods and food security. This session presents findings from two impact evaluations examining climate adaptation and mitigation approaches in Madagascar: a reforestation program implemented by KfW and evaluated by the University of Göttingen, and farmer field schools implemented by GIZ and evaluated by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).  

The session discusses whether the reforestation programme contributed to sustained forest restoration and improved socioeconomic outcomes through increased land tenure security. Evidence on digital skills training for TVET teachers in Rwanda and energy-efficient school rehabilitation programs in Georgia

Strong education systems depend on both qualified teachers and conducive learning environments. This session brings together two very different experiences from two impact evaluations in the education sector: a digital skills training programme for TVET teachers in Rwanda implemented by GIZ and evaluated by the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT Berlin), and an energy-efficient school rehabilitation programme in Georgia implemented by KfW and evaluated by the University of Hamburg. More

Evidence on entrepreneurship and private-sector training in Benin and Tunisia

Youth unemployment and skill mismatches remain major barriers to inclusive economic development. This session presents findings from two impact evaluations examining approaches aimed at improving employment opportunities and economic inclusion: the Small and Medium Enterprises Business Training and Coaching Loop (SME Loop) in Benin implemented by GIZ and evaluated by the Center for Evaluation and Development (C4ED), and an inter-company training programme with the private sector in Tunisia also implemented by GIZ and evaluated by the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research (ifo Institute).

Drawing on the results of the two impact evaluations, the session discusses whether and under what conditions such interventions can strengthen employability, business performance and labour market integration. More
