Our Evaluations

The BMZ has been supporting decentralisation projects in Africa for over 40 years. The objective of this evaluation is to assess the developmental impact of support measures for decentralisation in African partner countries and to inform the further conceptual refinement of the approach.

Multilateral development cooperation (DC) is essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this sense, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) strives for strong multilateral development cooperation. However, systematic evidence gaps exist, which is why DEval is evaluating the BMZ's multilateral engagement.

The objective is to develop and pilot a format for evaluating the engagement of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in partner countries. Country portfolio evaluations are to be conducted in future on a regular basis to address the existing evidence gap in bilateral development cooperation, and to help improve accountability and steering and promote institutional learning.
