Support of Protected Areas

Protected areas such as biosphere reserves and national parks are geographical areas that are intended to conserve biodiversity. In supporting protected areas, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) aims not only to conserve endangered biodiversity, but also to reduce poverty and promote development opportunities. DEval evaluates the achievement of these objectives and how potential conflicts between the objectives are handled.

Evaluation of the BMZ Emergency COVID-19 Support Programme

The COVID-19 Emergency Response Programme (Corona-Sofortprogramm, CSP) was implemented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) between April 2020 and December 2021. It provided support to developing and emerging countries to curb the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The evaluation was conducted in two phases and analyses the distribution channels and instruments used within the CSP.

Strategic Portfolio Management in German Development Cooperation – a Meta-Perspective

The objective is to develop and pilot a format for evaluating the engagement of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in partner countries. Country portfolio evaluations are to be conducted in future on a regular basis to address the existing evidence gap in bilateral development cooperation, and to help improve accountability and steering and promote institutional learning.

Interministerial Strategic Evaluation of Germany’s Civil Engagement in Afghanistan

The evaluation aims to perform an independent and comprehensive analysis and assessment of the Federal Government’s civil engagement in Afghanistan. To this end, it examines the respective engagement of the ministries involved (Federal Foreign Office – AA, Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community – BMI, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development – BMZ) and how they interact.
