DEval and COVID-19

The outbreak and rapid spread of the coronavirus has dramatically changed our everyday life - professionally and privately - within a few weeks. This also applies to DEval, of course. Our approach to the pandemic is based on two components: a first component, primarily directed at our institute, and a second component, which is intended to focus on DEval's contribution as a knowledge organisation for development policy in times of the pandemic.

Protect health, maintain working capacity

In order to protect our employees and our partners, we follow the guidelines of the German Federal Government and the WHO and work in our home offices as far as possible.

DEval evaluations and projects in other fields of activity are continuing under the changed conditions and are continuously adapted to the circumstances of this dynamic situation. Trips to partner countries for case studies have been cancelled or postponed, all other travel activities have also been discontinued; alternative, mostly virtual formats of cooperation and interaction are now increasingly coming into play.

Evaluation and evidence-based policy in times of the corona pandemic

In view of the foreseeable consequences of the pandemic in developing and emerging countries, development cooperation has begun to develop and implement measures aimed at containing the pandemic on the ground but also at adapting to the social, economic and ecological consequences. As an evaluation and departmental research institute for development cooperation, we want to provide decision-makers in the policy field, our partners and a broader specialist public with relevant evidence and expertise on the effectiveness of these measures. Within the framework of our evaluation mandate, we also want to do this together with our national and international partners in the evaluation and scientific community, so that existing knowledge can be used as well as possible and future research can be geared as precisely as possible to meeting this global challenge.
