What is it like to work at DEval?
With our work at DEval we contribute to making German development cooperation more effective. Whether as evaluators, in administration or as student employees - together we meet the challenge of generating recommendations for policy and practice with our independent and strategically relevant evaluations. The majority of our employees work as evaluators in small teams. They are spread across three evaluation departments with different focus areas, and our Competence Centre for Methodology. In the areas of administration (personnel, accounting, IT and internal services) and management with the communication and publications unit we handle support processes. As a young organisation, we are constantly working on the further development of our institute and are shaping our institute‘s culture together and with great commitment.
What does an evaluator do?
Our evaluators' daily work is very diverse – one day they might be abroad on case studies collecting data, the next day they might analyse data at the institute and the day thereafter they might present results to important stakeholders in the evaluation. We work in evaluation teams, which usually consist of a team leader and up to three team members. Together, the evaluation team is responsible for the entire process of the respective evaluation: from the development of the evaluation concept and research design to the collection and analysis of data and the dissemination of results, for example in the form of evaluation reports and presentations. The teams are composed in an interdisciplinary way: whether they are experts in the field of evaluation, methods specialists or people with development cooperation experience - each team member can contribute his or her individual strengths to the evaluation process.
What does DEval offer students?
Both as an intern and as a student employee you will gain exciting insights into our work. We regularly advertise internships or student temporary positions for our evaluations or other work areas of the departments. You can also find these job advertisements here on our website. The prerequisite for an application as an intern is that the internship is specified as a mandatory internship in your examination regulations. To apply as a student employee, you must be enrolled as a student at a university.
How do I apply?
In most cases, our application process takes place via the Interamt job portal (exception: student employees/internships), which you can access via the corresponding link in our job advertisements. There you will be guided through the registration and application process. For student jobs the process runs either via our HRworks personnel management system or via e-mail. Your application should include your current CV, a letter of motivation and relevant academic records and references for the respective position. Unfortunately, we cannot accept unsolicited applications, only applications for specific positions advertised by us.

Further education and training
Human resources development is crucial for our knowledge retention and knowledge building. We have set ourselves the goal of supporting our employees in their competence development through concrete further education offers on the one hand and on the other hand through training on the job. At our Brown Bag Lunches or Coffee Talks there are regular opportunities for professional exchange on ongoing evaluations or exciting topics in the field of development cooperation or evaluation methodology.
