Impact to Go – Climate risk management
Evidence on an index-based insurance for smallholder farmers in Vietnam
Climate-related shocks increasingly threaten the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in low- and middle-income countries. This session presents findings from an impact evaluation conducted by the RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research on approaches to strengthening climate resilience among farming households in Vietnam, including an index-based agricultural microinsurance scheme supported by KfW and a climate resilience management training programme for farmers.
Drawing on the impact evaluation, the session discusses findings on the demand for agricultural insurance, willingness to pay, factors influencing insurance uptake, and the role of climate resilience training in improving farmers’ understanding of climate risks and insurance mechanisms.
