17.04.2018 - Strengthening evaluation in Latin America
DEval’s director, Prof Dr Jörg Faust, and the coordinator of the evaluation network for Latin America and the Caribbean ReLAC, Silvia Salinas Mulder signed a Memorandum of Understanding to intensify their cooperation in the region. The memorandum is initially valid for two years and can be renewed if both parties agree.
The document formalises the fields of cooperation of both entities: Amongst them is the appropriation of the evaluation standards for Latina America and the Caribbean by the national evaluation networks in the region, the dissemination of the standards and the promotion of their application. Other specified areas of work are the support of affiliate networks, the professional integration of young and emerging evaluators and the promotion for integrating human rights and gender equality in evaluation. Additionally, the translation of important evaluation literature is planned.
Both organisations already have worked together in the framework of FOCEVAL in the past: DEval initiated and supported activities for elaborating the Evaluation Standards for Latin America and the Caribbean. (The evaluation standards are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.) Both parties have worked out contributions to conferences and other events. Together with the CLEAR centre for Latin America and the Caribbean, CIDE and the initiative EvalYouth, DEval and ReLAC have awarded a prize for the best postgraduate thesis on monitoring and evaluation in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2017.
This memorandum of understanding – as does the one between DEval and UN Women – formalises the cooperation and paves the way for future activities of DEval in the Region.
