18.09.2017 - DEval hosts the meeting of OECD-DAC EvalNet ECD-Task Team
„How can evaluation units of organizations for development cooperation strengthen national evaluation capacities?“ This topic was discussed by representatives of evaluation units from governmental development organizations from Sweden, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Finland, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Japan, the OECD-DAC Secretariat and the African Development Bank in the frame of the meeting of the OECD-DAC Task Team for Evaluation Capacity Development (ECD) on the 12th and 13th of September at DEval. Chaired by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), a common vision was drafted outlining the significance of evaluation by 2022 in partner countries. The participants discussed the possible contributions by the DAC Evaluation network as well as by each organization towards achieving this vision and the necessity to strengthen cooperation with strategic partners. Moreover, they agreed to strengthen the coordination of their efforts to improve evaluation capacities and to advocate for a stronger international recognition of evaluation as a pillar of good governance and the need to engage in ECD. Members of the task team will set joint impulses for the implementation of activities to strengthen the capacities to demand, conduct and use evaluation for evidence based decision-making and accountability in accordance to their organizations’ mandate.
Dr. Stefanie Krapp, representing DEval alongside Helena Stadtmüller and Barbara Flatters at the meeting, concludes: „I am very pleased about our meeting: We now have a common view on the significance of strengthening individual and institutional capacities as well as the enabling environment. Every organization can contribute towards this common vision and has agreed to it. At the same time, the task team serves as crucial platform for exchange and mutual support.“
