Context Responsive Evaluations
EvalConnect is committed to strengthening inclusive and local evaluation practices through South-South-North exchange and the promotion of diverse perspectives in evaluation processes.
Incorporating new and diverse perspectives in evaluation – particularly those of voices which have historically been marginalizeised – is not only essential for upholding the "leave no one behind" principle, but also strengthens the use, validity and legitimacy of evaluation results by engaging multiple stakeholders.
Within our work, we are dedicated to strengthening South-South-North exchange throughout mutual learning, to fostering local leadership in evaluation, and to promoting practices that are equitable and context-sensitive. Together with our partners, we aim to shape evaluation processes that include different perspectives and varieddivers evaluation practices.
This vision builds on collective practices with the public sector institutions, academia, and civil society organizationisations. Together, we support various initiatives that foster reflection, theoretical development, and the active participation of stakeholders in evaluation processes. The project aims to facilitate new spaces for exchange, promoting dialogue and shared understanding of the importance of those approaches in evaluation. To advance these efforts, we focus on (scientifically) systematizing context responsive evaluation approaches and methods, promoting their application as transformative tools for social change.
Context Responsive Approaches in Evaluations
These approaches recognize the importance of the cultural context in which interventions are implemented and evaluated, and emphasize that there is no one-size-fits-all procedure for evaluations. Rather, the specific context must be considered during the design, implementation, and dissemination of Evaluations. A key consideration here is incorporating local knowledge, not just as a data source, but as a guide for shaping evaluation practice and theory. Context responsive approaches yield dual benefits: they generate findings that are both valid and relevant, while the inclusive nature of the process fosters greater ownership and commitment, thereby strengthening the use of evaluation findings.
